hey /vp/. I'm replaying platinum today, have any recommendations for a story team? i want to use a lot of underused or uncommon mons.

This. Make sure to catch a Bidoof simply because you'll need those move slots. Also Ponyta/Rapidash are great in this region and you can catch them just North of Oreburgh. And Noctowl is a personal favorite of mine.

I second the ponyta/rapidash idea. I tried it on my run through Platinum expecting it to fall somewhere between normal and shit only to be pleasantly surprised.

I can't recommend any particular Pokémon to use, but I can suggest some ones to avoid if you want to use some underused mons:
>Your starter (if you can bring yourself to box it)
>Staraptor
>Luxray
>Roserade
>Crobat
>Floatzel
>Garchomp
>Gardevoir/Gallade
>Lucario
>Giratina
Basically anything else you can get in Platinum would probably fall under the "underused" label; the lake trio might seem a little bit scrub-ish, but I can't imagine many people actually bothered to catch Mesprit and use it on their team.

Recently replayed Platinum, though I'd consider my team to be generic.

It's about three mons different than my first pokemon team, which...

I ended up being under leveled at the end, but that may be to Sinnoh's level curve being screwed over by the time you get to the peak of Mt. Coronet.

If I'd suggest any mon to use, go with Porygon-Z, Togekiss, Hippowdon, Gliscor, keeping Medicham instead of trading it, and even Azumarill (I even wanted to put Azumarill on my team) for mon's sakes anyways, they are all good mons in general, really fun to use, too.

Op if you pick this guy you will not regret it. When I went against the E4 on pearl I pretty much had one level 60-70 something Torterra and a team of level no more than 40 somethings. When Torterra finally got knocked out I needed a pokemon to use as fodder while I revived it. I chose Azumarill thinking the little feller would get knocked out in one hit only to find it held its own pretty well despite being like under leveled by like 20 levels. Even took out one or two mons in the process. I can't believe it took me till the E4 to find out he wasn't just a cute pokemon I used to surf/waterfall me around.
