Could it just be part of that "celebrating legendaries" thing? I would guess that Palkia and Dialga are probably the most widely known legendaries among kids in the US, right?

Yeah but how popular are those two to the kid's getting happy meals today? There's a solid decade between gen 1 and gen 4, and in the years since I think Palkia and Dialga very well could have become more recognizable to young children.

By this logic something from XY or SM makes leaps and bounds more sense than Dialga and Palkia. And there's also the simple fact of the matter that culturally a lot of the gen 1 Pokemon have significantly more staying power than the rest.

I guess from a marketing perspective, if this wasn't hinting at anything, it would make more sense to have pokemon that are featured largely in Go, right? So could it just be that this will coincide with some Gen 4 pokemon coming to Go?

I feel like if a mainline pokemon game was going to be influenced by GO, it would've been Sun/Moon or the Ultra's. Seems like they would've capitalized on the popularity sooner if that's the direction they wanted to take, you know? It would explain their insistence that Let's Go is its own entity outside of the mainline.

You're right that it's probably a legendary-themed promotion, but the choice to use Dialga and Palkia can probably be chalked up to the site's graphic designer being a 20-something who vaguely remembers those two legendaries being promoted to hell and back when he was a kid
