The story was chopped up into many bite-sized cutscenes that stretched out the already good-sized story. I didn't think the story was that bad but for fucks sake every 10 feet theres another cutscene.

GameFreak realized that they couldn't recreate the vastness of Unova for older fans so they focused most of their efforts on kid appeal.
The speed stats were an attempt to make Gen 1 'mons relevant again by making their stats look less ass.
