I've always liked it. I was defending it against attacks within a week. Had a coworker pissed off at me because I ended up having to put down Gen 5 for things they were complaining about in Gen 6 which were worse in Gen 5, their favorite Gen.
Gen 6 was good and could've been a very good start. Instead Masuda's bullshit ruined everything about it with OR/AS.
Then they rushed out a fucking beta that was worse in almost every way because muh anniversary no one cared about and then followed it up with what feels like a complete game but compared to the originals story wise was a mess while the extras they included were outright lied about which GF at least had never done before and in one case was FINALLY some returning content, but was unplayable compared to the Frontier event it mimics and only made the online bits seem even worse.
People keep making this argument as if it's nostalgia but what do you expect?
If I bake you a cake that's awesome and then add a little piss to the second one, and also add a little shit to the next one, is it an argument if I say you're just nostalgic for the first cake? No, it's fucking not. They are factually getting worse so of course people are going to look back and say the previous ones weren't as bad. Because they weren't.
This is the situation Pokémon is in. It was consistently going up until and through Gen 4 and then Gen 5 fucked a bunch of stuff up.
In reality, nostalgia has almost zero power over people. Even when they're using the word. Especially when they're using it, actually because nostalgia is not an obvious force. Nostalgia as a word is just mainstream claptrap at this point, being overused like OCD or any name socjus likes to call you to the point of meaninglessness.
