>>36681527>on the exact moment we have this ''level scaling'' thing proven to be falseSo you're telling me that some gym leaders just have first stage barely leveled up pokemon. Sometimes so weak you'd have trouble finding one that shit.
> and the fact that gym leaders very often very competitive, you can scratch off this theory that Gym leaders are community teachersThey can do their job as a gatekeeper to the league and do community service. The face that a challenger gets doesn't have to be the same that a newbie looking to get started, or a regular guy looking for local self-defense gets. Because it's a job, one that involves acting the part.
> You realize the Gym leaders are the literal gate keepers to the E4 right? The very best trainers of the region. At least the best that are employed by the League. For them, too, this is a job. They're there to be beaten. That's why they're never mad at you.
> Most plebs shouldn't be able to pass a gym leaderBecause most don't go pro. The League is a league for professional pokemon trainers. If you're not all-in with at least some talent, you won't make it.
> Which also explains why some Gym leaders eventually retire/become part of the E4There's a much easier explanation: They retire because that's a thing people do when they put in their work. Going to the E4? It's called a promotion.
You think of the League as too serious. It's a competitive sport. It's the football of the Pokemon world, but it's also viewed through the angle of a (pre)teen who doesn't see the backroom deals and the politics coming with this, or the actual government in the background. You're a young pro trainer, so your focus is only on the pokemon combat angle, and you're young enough that the setup works on you.
