>>36670145I'm going to lay this out as simple as possible, because USUM and now LGPE have completely fucking destroyed previous notions of what makes a Generation according to the community, and the 2019 games will likely further muddle things up.
Currently, the only thing holding together what a Generation is, is the Pokemon Bank's Categories, which categorize Pokemon by, you guessed it, Generations. Naturally, sometime in Late 2019, Bank is going to update to include Meltan and the 2019 Games' Pokemon.
If GameFreak puts Meltan in the same category as the Alola Pokemon, it's Gen 7.
If Meltan ends up in an entirely NEW category that didn't exist prior to the inevitable update to add compatibility for the 2019 games, then it's Gen 8. Which, by extension, also makes LGPE Gen 8, because it's a Mainline Title featuring a Gen 8 Pokemon.
So on and so forth for all the other categories and their respective Generations, meaning Meltan could be Gen 5, Gen 2, or anything.
YOU don't get to decide what Pokemon belongs in what generation, GAMEFREAK does.
You might not agree with it, you might even hate it, but you hold absolutely zero power over the official word of god.
