>>36677315it boggles my mind how it didn't take off, it seems like something competative players would love, but it didn't return in any real substance except tiny things, like in ORAS that one fight with the evolved semi monkey trio rotation battle...
The way you got from place to place was pretty linear, with some backtracking a bit through.
The bad guy team was just too ironic to be serious, the message is unique, but they were still trainers that captured pokemon/stole them for their needs. The sages were boring, and were just reskinned for whatever purpose they needed to do. which is a bit disheartening.
Adding to that, some of the gym leaders are just bland, normal gym can get a pass because that is just par for the course, bug and dragon gym was just show pieces, clay, while ground type is one of my favorite types, left more to be desired when the GROUND gym in my memory only brings up the cold storage part....
N was a hit or miss cahracter, either you liked him, or hated him, and for me, it was more on the dislike, the name didn't help...
The final bits of the story were ok, but nothing to write home about looking back, but was neat to see that bad character turned good even though he was good all along but was being used character...
All in all it wasn't that bad, but BW2 really fixed some things with it, like how there are what 7 fire types, 1 is a starter, the monkey... victini is event, larvesta is end game, and heatmor is end game, so either choose the starter, or deal with 2 real choices, the actually good fire ape, or the street lamp... and that seems to be a big problem with lots of pokemon games it seems.... gens 2,4,5 all fall pray to this.
BW2 added older pokemon to balance out some of the problems with the variety of pokemon, and that is decent, but in some areas it still is pretty lackluster, but was a great thing to do. Story was a bit better, albeit a bit more convoluted imo. Random ninja characters just cus. but the MASSIVE end game
