1. Exploration and reasons to backtrack: the earlier gens did pretty okay in having stuff to revisit earlier routes; hidden dungeons blocked by a waterfall, that sort of thing. Which isn’t to say the newer games don’t have those at all, but the overworked does feel smaller.
2. Things to do beside battling. I want to say, Gen 7 was kinda bad at this; your side stuff include a) Battle Royale, which you can only really get to battle in once you’re almost at the league, and b) Festival Plaza, which requires an internet connection for a lackluster experience. Less of those and more like Gen 3 & 4’s Contests / Pokeathlons or Gen 5’s movies, please.
3. Better Postgame for replayability. A psuedo-Battle Tower doesn’t cut it these days, no matter which region GF is planning on remaking; bring back the mega-sized facilities and the Battle Frontiers.
