Even then, the Unova Games had way more gameplay interruptions than Alola did.
The only difference is you didn't notice it because you were so caught up in mashing A, whereas it felt like a slog in Alola because every single interruption had fadeouts to load the event and a bunch of unskippable animations and camera pans before you were allowed to continue mashing through dialogue, and then when it was done you had to wait on another fadeout to unload the event and reload the map's usual features.
And yet the latter half still didn't bother you as much as Unova did despite having multiple fadeouts per map.

Yeah N is an annoying character that hogged a ton of the spotlight, but he at least was a recurring enemy trainer. Lillie was just a gov't mandated waifu.

Also her wardrobe change to signify that she's developed as a character is the lamest thing the writers have ever done. They may as well have thrown in a line about how SHE evolved too just like Nebby.

If there's one thing I'll give GameFreak credit for, it's that they managed to avoid the dreaded haircut meme and instead went for a ponytail.

Not exactly, the interruptions in Unova, with exception to plasma plot, were contained to the beginning and ends of a town or city. In SM they happen almost every five minutes for some asinine reasons like Lillie being scared of her own shadow or Hau wanting malasadas.

It's also worth noting that cutscenes and dialogue in SM comes to about 11 hours while Black and White is around 1 or 2.

But you aren't going to care either way.

Lillie, on the other hand, was receiving merch very shortly after SM released, and it saw no signs of slowing down, and more merch is still being made to this day. Odds are she still won't stop getting merch even after Gen 7, because they're probably going to shoehorn her into every game as the new Human Lightning.

N's by no means a Gary Stu, he's just an easily manipulated autist that no one really "gets" other than BW's Protagonist, as evidenced by them abruptly leaving to go look for him.
Lillie on the other hand, while not a Mary Sue, is such a fucking special snowflake that even Wild Pokemon don't want to bother her despite the fact that Repels shouldn't work unless you have a Pokemon that's stronger (ergo, higher leveled) than the ones in the area.
Everyone except the player who's literally incapable of emotion unless it's their initial reaction towards Nihilego gets erect or wet at the mere sight of her, treating her like the absolute best thing ever despite having done nothing at all aside from telling Nebby to get back in the bag, giving you items while telling you how great you are (but not as great as her, teehee), changing her clothes and tying her hair into a ponytail.

Not really, N follows team plasma because he is the supposed ruler, but he's shown to conduct his own research in the library, diverges an escape for several grunts, awakens the opposing box dragon, and is completely independent by the sequel.

This one is intriguing. The player character is much younger than N and carry themselves through the whole journey, and I'm pretty sure N is old enough to drink alcohol. That anon would have a point if N did something B2W2 besides watching his box legend get absorbed by Kyurem.

I found N more interesting and engaging because he was clearly a core antagonist, but wasn't this ruthless person or edgy overlord, but seemed like a lost person trying to find his way, that happened to get raised by the wrong guy. In the end he realized that Ghestis was an ass from the betrayal, and in B2W2 they expand on Team Plasma's side of things + prequel stuff. By the end of B2W2 (Or when Kyurem gets fused, I forget which), N realizes that his belief of Pokemon battling being abusive is changed, though he still disagrees with it.
Lillie was raised by a verbally abusive mother and wanted to be independent, but she didn't really go through a change other than "Oh look, new hair new me!", "Look mom, I'm standing up against you!", and "I'm gonna get stronger on my own, see you later pal!" though I've only played SM She felt devoid of personality and much more cliched than N.
If anything Lillie feels like a poor man's N who never changes, comes to any realizations, can't battle, and doesn't have much of a backstory other than her mom being an ass. Even if N did have as much screen time as Lillie, I'd enjoy a growing, "mysterious" character much more than generic-supportive-female-companion #243.

TL;DR: N has changing personality as the games progress, Lillie is slightly above static and feels same-y, especially by Pokemon standards

I think you're being a bit harsh on Lillie. Remember N is an adult while she's a teenager, so her way to express resentment fits for her age. If you're willing to look past her initial doormat personality she definitely has a compelling progress.

I know you're all going to hate me for this, but I like both Lillie and N, actually like the main story of both BW and SM and think they're both the most enjoyable stories in the main series even if they're not perfect or particularly high-quality writing outside of the context of Pokémon; even aside from the story, I think their main campaigns are legitimately fun, and I would be totally satisfied if Gen VIII manages to match either one in style and quality... fight me.
I agree with the previous commenters who said that they're honestly similar in the number of times gameplay is interrupted, but SM's cutscenes are a lot longer in terms of animations, fade-ins and fade-outs and consequently are far more intrusive to people who don't enjoy cutscenes. Cutting down on the time spent on fade-ins and fade-outs, increasing the speed of text and letting more of the animations play concurrently with the text would go a long way to satisfying players who don't like the added focus on story without actually taking away that added focus for the people who enjoy it.

I can definitely agree that Gen VII having a bigger focus on the world. Ecosystems were fleshed out (Even if they were confined to islands), Pokemon had predators and prey directly stated in the Pokedex to help the world feel more alive, characters had more "flair" to them, and I liked Lusamine as a deranged woman under the influence of this terrifying alien creature (Kind of like Haltmann from Planet Robobot, though he was controlled by a computer program). If they cut the fat on the cutscenes along with excessive tutorials and had less water, had more of a post-game, and added more variety to the Battle Tree, it would be a pretty solid game.
