Yes, and in the other languages as well.

Nosferapti best Zubat name for example. Aquana (funnily enough a nickname I used for Vaporeon before knowing it was it's French name), Mysdibule (Mawile), and Vemini (Poipole) being a couple others that come immediately to mind from French.

Other notable names being Morlord (Quagsire, German), Despotar (Tyranitar, German), Zigzachs (Zigzagoon, German), Katagami (Kartana, German), Hellgar (Houndoom, Japanese), Tsutarja (Snivy, Japanese), Pokabu (Tepig. Japanese), Mijumaru (Oshawott. Japanese), and Shikijika (Deerling, Japanese) being some of the others I like better.

It's more like "street cut". But just translating terms like that literally is dumb, since the entire point is WHAT it refers to, not the literal meaning of the words. A tsujigiri is the act of murdering some random passerby on the street with a sword. It usually happened at night, so I don't see how "night slash" is all that "inaccurate" a translation.

Depending on how it's read it can be either street/crossroads cut or crossroads killing.

>Yoshiwara spree killing (吉原百人斬り)
斬 can be read as both cut and kill with the same pronunciation of ki(ru), which voices to gi(ru) in most compounds

Translating 辻 as crossroad is dumb. It has nothing to do with crossroads, it means that it's an attack performed on a public street as opposed to in an actual setting for a swordfight.
And 斬 literally means to cut, it can just be taken as "kill" when used about people because you kill people when you cut their heads off.

I don't even know 2 thirds of the mons after gen 2 and everything post gen 3 I call by their Japanese names because those were the names we were all first exposed to as new games came out. I wasn't a kid then so getting early infornation wasn't difficult.

At the end of the day, nostalgia and bias will inform one's opinion on the names so even though I know Charizard's real name is Lizardon, and as cool as it is, I will always call it Charizard. On the other hand, Pochama will always be Pochama to me and not Piplup, for similar reasons.

This isn't a pun. 辻 literally means "crossroad", sure, but it's also used to just mean public roads in general, and it shouldn't be translated as "crossroad" in contexts where it doesn't actually mean crossroad.
