Heatmor was the only Pokémon in Generation 7 to receive the move Fire Lash.

I love his design and got a /vp/oreon to give me a Heatmor for Black. Went mixed with Fire Blast/Focus Blast/Night Slash/Hone Claws. Accuracy boost helped the high power special attacks and make Night Slash stronger to counter the bulky physics and ghosts in game, was a great team member.

What I'd like for Heatmor is an evolution/mega thats Fire/Steel, to really focus on the engine like parts of it, maybe give it a Motor Drive ability for fire attacks and ramp up the offenses.

It's physical because it's his tongue. Also you can transfer a Heatmor up from Gen 5. Despite also having naturally higher special attack, Fire Lash at least lowers enemy defense so you're going to be hitting hard either way.

It's only available late in the game
It has textbook "frail, slow, mixed attacker" stats which make it trash even in-game
Unlike its counterpart Durant which at least has gimmick sets like Truant + Entrainment, Heatmor has jack shit it can do
I'm convinced that someone at Game Freak is fully aware of how oblivious they are to game balance and intentionally sneaks in egregiously, retardedly dogshit Pokemon like Heatmor just for the fun of it.

Does the "it's physical because it's a physical body part/object" argument even matter at this point? water shuriken was switched to special just to better fit greninja's nature despite the move's otherwise clearly implied physical category. Sacred fire is physical to better fit Ho-Oh's higher attack stat despite it clearly looking special for at least a decade now. Freeze shock and bolt strike are physical because zekrom is physical, not because the moves are inherently so by design alone.

They could have made fire lash like grass knot or draining kiss, where the move is special but makes contact, because special is the category that will better fit the pokemon that need to use the move. And no one would have complained.

Feels like Fire Lash was originally designed to be Incineroar's signature move, but Gamefreak were worried that it would be too strong on the tiger, so they gave it to Heatmor instead and made Darkest Lariat as a replacement to Fire Lash as Incineroar's signature move.

I bred a Heatmor with Curse and Sucker Punch for my Ultra Sun playtrough, its fun just to set up a Curse, then follow up with Fire Lash and lower the opponents defense and just finish off with a sucker punch (or even just Fire Lash + Sucker Punch). It's got Flash Fire but I will replace it with Gluttony and slap a binch berry on it too and recycle, should be even better.
