The chibi artstyle is just awful, and the transition from Hoenn to 3D is too faithful, making a blocky and unnatural-feeling region. In addition, places like the Fallarbor town area have their colors completely ruined.
The music is fucking atrocious. It exists in this weird state where it's what you think the Hoenn music sounds like, but if you go back and listen to the original soundtrack and compare it's a travesty. Not to mention tracks like Route 113 are completely butchered.
It's been talked about ad naseum before but the difficulty curve and leveling of the game is fucked. Not enough attention was put into how the EXP share would effect the game and you can streamroll even without it off. In my initial playthrough, XP share off, I only lost once and it was because I forgot to heal before an Elite 4 battle or something.
The content of the game is really barebones. If you like secret bases, that's cool, but I personally didn't. Contests are so easy it's not even worth doing. No Battle Frontier should go without saying. No gym rematches... I could go on.
The shoe-horning in of Mega Evolution and the Delta Episode are legitimately some of the worst things ever written in pokemon, easily.
It's a shitshow, all around. Maybe 3.5/10 at max.
