At the end, he hurt everybody for his own sake and cause his own problem but he just get away because he acted sorry for 5 minute. Whenever Ash made any mistake, he has to suffer the consequence his own mistake and others mistake yet the guy that doomed a entire region got rewarded instead because he act sorry for five minute. This is no consequence, this is an excuse.

He is the winner because he was director's favorite. Nobody likes the director's pet that get everything handed to them because the director loves them. Both the character and the director deserves the hate they receive.
