Humans are a form of pokemon theirselves as they discends as well from the most ancient common ancenstor, mew.
Humanoid pokemon are nothing but "cousins" of human theirselves, as chimps and irl humans are related.

Humans have moves, they call it techniques. You see the swimmers in the main game? They are humans which know the move surf. In one of the lgpe trailers you see the ss anne captain use the move cut by himself. They also have an ability, but that's rather bond to intelligence/skills than to battle traits: the ability to talk. Humans lost part of their battle strenght because they evolved to stop fighting, while other species in the wild kept fighting among each others. Eventually humans evolved to be the dominant species and so started fighting, if they had to, using other species.

I've thought about this a lot, but fuck me
if I've ever been able to come up with an answer.

I kind of have this headcanon/theory that Pokemon aren't one-to-one animals, but an entirely different kind of creature. Something that makes them easier to compress and teleport in a way humans can't (otherwise we could just teleport between towns).

Animals might have come before (which I mostly think because of shit like Pikachu being called the Electric MOUSE, meaning researchers have some kind of animal reference), and somehow animals became less common and Pokemon became more. Somehow.

...But that's just my shit idea.
