Gale of Darkness or Battle Revolution with nicer textures would be best in my opinion. DQXI-tier graphics would only exacerbate the toylike appearance of modern Pokemon.

Does NOT have to be open world, but some freedom like in Kanto gen1 would be nice.

Of those three games, Breath of the Wild is the only one that is open world. Xenoblade 2 is even completely linear with no backtracking required, pretty much the opposite of open world.
