I think the movie loses its western audience because it portrays a more eastern God. if you take Bodhisattva Gods for example, they're often persecuted, but if you show them respect and unconditional kindness, they'll offer you power you could never imagine.
I like to think of that as the reason Arceus suddenly acquired Za Warudo powers.
