This could be a cool idea if the trainers had an entire party built around a specific Pokemon. Like the Magikarp trainer leading with a rain setter and setting up the Magikarp Flail sweep or Wild Ride Snorlax. That's obviously not what it's going to be, though.

Come to think of it, the idea behind this "Master" thing is similar to the Eeveelution trainers in Gen 7. Just normal NPCs named "Flareon User", "Vaporeon User", etc. No new models or anything. But at least they had backstories, which made them a bit more interesting.
