Like take R/S/E for example like 1/4 of the pokemon are related to space or aliens in some way and even more related to the themes of nature/ancientness
Like Metagross fits with the space theme, the Regis fit with the ancient theme
What the fuck does Goodra have to do with life and death or the the genies have to do with truth and ideals.
The games are more about banging you on the head with the themes now with cutscenes instead of having players figure out the themes through the game's world.
I think DP did a good job of this too btw it's mostly been a nuPokemon complaint of mine
