>>36764534I mean, he's not wrong. Pokemon is all about trying to breed for that one perfect Pokemon, all because of the multiple factors that come with competitive Pokemon:
1) Egg moves - certain moves are only attainable on a Pokemon if you breed, and for many Pokemon, these egg moves require massive amounts of chaining.
2) Abilities - Because of ability slots, you are not exactly guaranteed to get the ability you want. Ability Capsules exist, but you have to spend 100+ BP on them. They also don't work for Hidden Abilities.
3) IVs and Hidden Power types - It's difficult enough trying to breed for the perfect-IV Pokemon, but if you are trying to do that AND breed for a specific Hidden Power type, it's even more grindwork.
4) Natures - Granted Pokemon has made it easier to breed for natures ever since Gen V, but it is still a pain in the ass.
5) Shiny hunting - Certain species of Pokemon aren't available in the wild, so the only way to attain shinies of them is to breed like crazy. Adding shinies to the other four features guarantees thousands upon thousands of eggs.
What Masuda and pals should do from now on to stop egg grinding:
1) Give players easier access to Ability Capsules, and also create Ability Capsules that work with Hidden Abilities.
2) Allow players to change Hidden Power type (through an NPC).
3) Allow players to customize IVs however they want through an NPC, or better yet, get rid of the system altogether.
4) Allow players to change the natures of their Pokemon through an NPC. (I wouldn't recommend getting rid of Abilities because they add some layer to competitive gameplay that isn't tedious bullshit like IVs.)
5) Allow Pokemon to learn their egg moves without having to breed. I know, sounds counterintuitive, right? But we had something along those lines for ORAS with Dex Radar.
6) Make all Pokemon available in the wild in the post-game (it's supposed to be catch 'em all anyway) in a special facility that has a higher shiny chance.
