Despite their appearance the monkeys have an amazing concept that should be used more.

The concept of having a pseudo starter that is used by rookie trainers in BW made the world more immersive,also is a neat thing is that their HAs is the starters default one.

Being stone evos make sense though. Unique pokemon usually get the uncommon evolution methods.

I don't mind them, that much. I think what makes people dislike them is that the designs were 'copy-pasted' from one another. I'll agree with >>36777497 that they're wasted potential, I think it would have been better if the evolution's design's substantially deviated from one another, as opposed to the first stages where they're all pretty similar. Besides that, I think the thing that bothers me is that in B/W you get handed a starter type pokémon on a platter before you even reach the first gym. Makes your starter choice less impactful when you end up getting two of the three types anyway.

so, a regular starter, then? we're long overdue for the games to stop treating starters like they're legendary pokemon with no known place of origin.
