Just because it's being used as a base doesn't mean nothing will change after; in fact, it means the opposite. They're making the game a simplistic starting point for new players, and they'll get more complex over time just like the games have been going. At most, this could mean they'll be simplifying/retconning some features, but it probably just means they're trying to ease kids and gofags into the current games as they are. I don't think Lets Go will be a great way to accomplish that, but I don't mind them trying.

I'd say XY had a part in it. It was an unfinished kanto pander-y rushed out game that was critically acclaimed, which sent the message that fans didn't care about quality games and just want that nostalgia trip. And then GO came out which was the nail in the coffin.
