When you say "spin-off" you're putting it in the same league with games not developed by Game Freak and basically aren't in the same genre of gameplay, which is dishonest. This isn't a "spin-off", it's a new series also developed by gamefreak.

They don't realise (or are choosing to ignore) the paradigm shift that has taken place at Game Freak hq. When Ishihara made that announcement, he called it a "new CORE pokémon RPG". When LGEP was revealed and GF called it mainline, they finished up the press conference by re-iterating 2019's game was the new Core game mentioned at E3 and simultaneously equating it to all their past efforts.
>Core - a central and often foundational part usually distinct from the enveloping part by a difference in nature
>Mainline - being part of an established group
Y'all can argue the toss like the shit-flinging monkeys you are, but two facts remain - Game Freak never once called LGEP core and given their retroactive equation of Core to the old set of games when talking about Gen VII, coupled with their previous view that anything not core was side series, it's clear they don't consider it such either.

Not as wildly as Mystery Dungeon, or any of the real spin offs. Add to the fact that this is developed by Game Freak, unlike any of the real spin offs. I don't care if you call it core, mainline, concurrent line, whatever. They aren't spin-offs is what we definitely know.

The most apt term would actually be Safari Zone: Kanto!, but even still then, it's got further differences, either with regards to the pokémon (no abilities), or mechanics (candies to boost pokémon, gained on capture, like in GO, no held items yet having megas proc anyway)

Its literally taking time away from a proper sequel because Nintendo knows pandering to Gen 1 and Pokemon Go + Switch = Big Profits. Even though the game looks like shit it will sell well and the proper sequels get pushed back further.

Is it a spin-off? In the E3 2017 interview, Masuda stated we would be getting a "core" game in 2018. Either this is the new definition of "core" (in which case, deuces), or he lied. And if this game sells well, the 2019 title will probably draw a lot of influence from it. So it's fair to want it to fail if you enjoy good Pokemon games.

No, it's not one.

In fact I'm happy if they manage to have fun with this game.
I just don't want the next game to be like that.
