>>36793752Abra is pretty easy because it evolves if you have it up front for every battle on Route 25. Magikarp is much, much worse because slow growth makes it hog too much experience early game. I'm sure you can evolve it if you have it up front as well for the entire Mt. Moon-R11-SS Anne arc, but at the cost of jeopardizing the growth of your other party members. And having both Abra and Magikarp at the same time? Forget it.
Slow growers are good to raise later in the game - notably Starmie, which you can get relatively early if you run to Fuchsia and Seafoam right after you're done with Pokemon Tower. It then can be brought up to speed with your other party members by fighting trainers on routes 12-15 provided you give it Thunderbolt and Ice Beam for easy kills.
