See, in Brawl, each Pokemon in Trainer's team actually took extra damage and knockback from moves that had certain elemental descriptors. Charizard takes extra damage from water moves (the only ones of which that actually deal damage belong to Squirtle and Olimar), Squirtle was best off with a grass weakness (which literally only Ivysaur could exploit), while Ivysaur was fucked over because it was weak to Fire moves (which made it objectively worse against Bowser, Cap Falcon, Charizard, Diddy Kong, Falco, Fox, Ganondorf, King Dedede, Link, Lucas, Luigi, Mario, Mr. Game and Watch, Ness, Olimar, ROB, Samus, Sheik, Snake, Toon Link, and Zelda)
The worst part is
the mechanic might be back for Ultimate.
