So why does Game Freak not do cross-gen evos anymore? the last cross-gen we got was Sylveon, and that was just made in order to shill Mon Amie and the Fairy type.

Game Freak created Eviolite in Gen V, and ever since then only Pokemon that can get boosted with Eviolite received additional evolutions. There are also Mega Evolutions that pretty much ruined any chance at certain Pokemon ever evolving, such as Absol, Mawile, and Kangaskhan. Alolan forms were introduced in Gen VII as a compromise, creating "branch evolutions" of certain Pokemon without changing their species.

better yet, why dont they retcon to new evolving methods? now every single new pokemon game will NEED to feature:
a mossy stone
an icy stone
a magnetic area
day-night cycle
areas to get special evolution items (magmarizer, electrilizer, spectral cloak, razor fang, razor claw
and im sure theres more im forgetting. why not make it so that most of these pokemon evolve from stones that we already have?

Because it was the gimmick of gen 4. Other gens had it but it was more prominent in gen 4. You'd know the hottest pokemon gimmick depending on what kind of research the region's professor is doing.

those kinds of locations could be omitted because new mons do evolve in those areas, however the Mossy and Icy stone locations still only evolve Eevee, would be perfect for other mons, and the held items could evolve other stuff too
