Greninjash appeared nearly 2 years after Greninja's original reveal. Greninja was officialy the most popular pokemon of its Generation since the beggining, but the smash appearance sent him to superstar status. Greninjash appeared a good year after that and did little to influence Greninja's popularity in the long run. In fact, i'd say the league fiasco was more of a detriment that anything, really.

Yeah, that's why i always told the people that post that shit that it literally doesn't matter. It was targeted at preschoolers whose only experience with pokemon is watching the movies and whichever other pokemon appear in mascot costumes in the stores. No one can really expect Zeraora to remain in that position at this time next year. The fact that only the first 3 encompass nearly 80% of the vote shows this. Also, i'm pretty shocked at how low Incineroar is considering he played a big part in the movie too.
