Gen 3 isn't shit. Ruby and sapphire were fun when i was 12 but looking back, it was a downgrade from g/s and all the hms and water made it super tedious and unenjoyable for me as i got older. Some really cool mon designs and some completely forgettable. I don't hate it but i definitely dont love it

Gen 3 was never really hated, ORAS was just bad, it wasn't a problem with the gen, it was a problem with the remake, if it was any other gen the reaction would be the exact same.

Don't get me wrong, gen 3 has problems, but nobody really felt it was the "worst" just mediocre and there.

Ruby/Sapphire felt like downgrades in a sense mostly from going back to static sprites after Crystal's introduction of moving ones

Emerald was an improvement on them in many ways

As a kid, I was pretty hyped for Gen III and thought it looked so advanced in comparison to my Silver. I wanted Ruby and a crimson GBA SP to go with it. While I played through it without really thinking, it was later on when I began to think that it really wasn't that great of a game, and I can imagine the online controversy (probably not as big as it would be if it were released today).

These were good choices though, it helped differenciate itself from the last 2 gens, same as the music
the whole point was to take the next step in pokemon and make it stand out

everything else tho is spot on. Hoenn is my favorite but these are some serious glaring issues

Woah now kiddo, if there's one thing that was amazing about the GBA game it was the music. It blew the shit out of Gen 1 and 2's composition and was one of the few non sonic games to make something that sounds good.

The best music I've heard on the GBA is from the Mega Man Battle Network series. But the system was notorious for its poor sound chip making music output muffled and compressed. However, people managed to figure out how to rip the audio and decompress it and make it sound like what it was meant to sound like. Look up old music uploads for MOTHER 3 and then look up the same music with "HQ" after they figured out how to restore the music. There are even emulator hacks that reinterpret the music so that it plays in the highest possible quality.

FRLG's music sounded better than RS's, but that's because they used actual 8-bit music samples as part of the music and that kind of audio actually sounded play on the sound chip (hence MMBN sounding good since a lot of its music is techno). Replicating real instruments turned out bad though and you should compare EarthBound's music to MOTHER 1+2's equivalent music.
