Why not just give ash a mega stone for the other charizard form. Would have had more of an impact to show just strong their bond had gotten since the first league where it just laid there not listening to him. Or was greninja just that popular that they had to give it a transformation

He's not allowed to use older Pokemon anymore unless it's some shitty Post-League Filler or will evolve into a new Pokemon, Kalos didn't have any Mega Evolutions aside from Diancie meaning Ash had no way to actually showcase Kalos' main gimmick, so while Alain was off fucking up Mega Evolutions in the Specials, the executives and GameFreak agreed on giving Ash a Special Snowflake Frog that's as good as a Mega but isn't actually one which also saved them the hassle of having to think up a reason as to why Ash would get rid of a Mega Accessory even though we're having this future predicament right now with Z-Moves.

Ash's Greninja was born to promote X and Y, though TPC had different plans with Charizard X.
That's why Gen6.
Gamefreak and OLM wanted to promote Kanto and Kalos starters.
Nintendo wanted to promote Greninja.
TPC wanted to promote Charizard X

which resulted in a half-assed games, shitty anime, angry fans, and a hated generation altogether.

Charizard and Greninja got a lot of hate within because of that too

Gen 6 was a total mess only because each had different plans on how to compete with Yo-Kai watch rising in popularity.

if Ash's Charizard gets a Mega, there's no way they are not giving him the X form. It's just too popular.

That being said, they are seeming to clamp down on the amount of appearances the older Pokemon and even characters get in the newer series. DP was the last time we really had a get together.

BW was removed but Charizard returned as a gimmick. XY made little to no references to the past. SM has made some overtures but we mostly got the typical Oak cameos (Bulbasaur, Muk, Tauros) and that was it.

As the years go by, I think expecting Ash to use his "reserves" for leagues is less and less likely. Sinnoh League was prob an exception since they had to shill Johto Pokemon for HGSS.
