Unfortunately to stay up to date and meta in official vgc you need to buy the new games and sadly play through the shitty story and arbitrary breeding system.
Anyone who talks about post game in a pve environment (literally any of them from any gen) needs to do the world a favour and kill themselves. That is bot post game. The pve post game is based on rng and overtuning opponents with shit like legendaries.
That being said its not that its not absolutely terrible, there needs to be something outside of online battles. Cant expdect mexicans to have an internet connection. But seriously the only end game that actually matters is the literal end of the game when you have access to breeding materials and facilities and no limitations on what pokemon you can get or moves they inherit. If were going to talk about end game, the best end game would be to remove the entire story.
