Agreed. Way to take an interesting concept and literally strip it away from the mon. Ampharos was originally going to be dragon type and honestly that makes a lot of sense; its design and evo progression is really similar to dragonite and goodra.

Duskull(shame its evos lack the skull motif)

Grovyle(leaf-feathered raptor that camouflages on trees? They went all out on this one!)
Lampent(kinda looks a Jiangshi)
Phantump(Trevenant is good, but I found the pre-evo a more unique design)

but ampharos isn't just a shorn sheep it's a lighthouse. which personally i like because it's a objectmon but so subtly. but i guess that's why people don't realise it is. desu even tho johto is my fave gen design-wise i think a big flaw is them shying away from design aspects when being overt would've been better. octillery, mantine, girafarig and wobbuffet to name a few victims to thus. anyway back to amphy, and despite them dropping the typing it's still kind of a dragon loosely. if you don't like him it's fine but for me it's rad because at least it's not just Sheep Gets Bigger

I don't like it because it ditches Mareep's concept. Electrified wool is such a unique and interesting idea for a mon and they just drop it in the final stage for its gimmick being that it just glows really bright. I mean, we kind of have Starmie and Lanturn at that point.

They really should have capitalized on the wool idea and given it some evolution where it poofs out into a big storm cloud.

I love Araquanid but it looks much more like a stereotypical bug whereas Dewpider looks like some bizarre tripedal alien or deep sea creature. I thought it was going to be related to the Ultra Beasts when we first saw the demo leak.

They gave Hoothoot the whole clock/time motif and the switching foot thing, then just dropped it to make Noctowl more generic. It's better than beta Noctowl I guess, but I feel like there's a compromise between the two they could have made that kept the most interesting parts of Hoothoot's design.
