>>36845994Gen 2 were much easier than Gen 1, but they had 100 new Pokemon and 2 regions. Could be overwhelming if scope is what the tweet is referring to.
Gen 3 is slightly harder than Gen 2, but not as difficult as Gen 1. But it introduces many new mechanics such as abilities, natures, and the IV/EV system, as well as a bigger dex than Gen 2. Can be seen as overwhelming. FRLG are harder than Gen 3.
Gen 4 are harder than Gens 1-3 combined. Platinum slightly reduced the difficulty but is still significantly harder than anything from Gens 1-3. HGSS are harder than Gen 2 but not as hard as any of Gen 4. DP and Platinum fine-tune the mechanics from Gen 3 and introduce far more Pokemon and items overall.
BW are about the same level of difficulty as Gen 3, if not slightly harder. BW introduce the biggest Pokedex overall but don't have as many mechanic changes as past games. B2W2 in normal mode are slightly harder than BW; B2W2 in easy mode are slightly harder than Gen 2 and slightly less difficult than Gen 3. B2W2 in Challenge Mode are just under DP and Platinum level in difficulty.
Gen 6 are slightly harder than Gen 2, but not as hard as BW. They introduce Fairy-type and Megas as mechanics, and they have the biggest in-game dex to date. So this could be viewed as overwhelming.
Gen 7. Sun and Moon are harder than Gen 3, BW, and Platinum, but not as difficult as B2W2 challenge mode. USUM are the hardest Pokemon games to date, especially in the Akala Island section of the game where all of the trials are supercharged in difficulty. Even skilled players using EXP. Share can have difficulty with Alolan Marowak and Alolan Araquanid. USUM also have the second highest in-game dex to date, so they can be very overwhelming.
LGPE are somewhat difficult, in large part because of mechanic changes that make catching Pokemon an actual challenge. You have automatic EXP. Share and can switch out Pokemon at will, but the trainers and gym leaders are much stronger than before.
