He's a mix of BW and XY Ash: competent, sensible battler who also acts like the world around him is new and everything is an adventure.
It's a good personality for a 10 year old, but is creepy when you consider even in universe, he looks like a 40 year old Mexican and is on the same level of knowledge and expertise on Pokemon as Kukui and Samson Oak. He also makes old man puns in their style as well.
Sometimes I can't shake the feeling he's a full adult, acting like a kid. Some of the things he says are dumber than Rotom, who is programmed to be excited about the world around him.
