If you're just meaning what I use them on, then the conditions for using a Gold Bottle Cap for me, are as follows...
>The Pokémon in question is missing 1 or 2 IVs - never.>The Pokémon in question is missing 3 IVs and one of the 3 it has is the wrong attacking stat and one it needs is NOT 31. A Timid Gardevoir who hatched with 31 in Attack, Defense, and Speed, for example. This is commonly the case. Especially with transfers or Shinies that are otherwise okay for competitive.>The Pokémon in question is missing 3 IVs and one of the 3 it has is the right attacking stat and the one it doesn't need is NOT 31. A Timid Gardevoir who hatched with 31 in Defense, Special Attack, and Speed, for example. On rare occasions this MIGHT be capped. This really only occurs if I'm low on normal caps and want to use the thing NOW, so I don't feel like even taking that couple minutes to get some normals ones though.>The Pokémon in question has 4 or 5 IVs missing. Most often the case.To be honest I don't really use Gold ones at all anymore though as of US/UM as FC earning is REALLY easy.
In case you're not aware, every Level 2+ Treasure Hunt booth is guaranteed to give you a normal one upon placement. Depending upon how you do it that's 100, 150, or 200 FC per cap, in other words, so all you need is someone to buy it from and I've got all of my others set up for it.
100 - 200 is nothing when you can end up getting over 2500 per round of battles.
