Yes but I hated that they were a line instead of individual ghosts with strengths/weaknesses. In a game where there are only 3 Ghost Pokemon, you only use Gengar because Haunter and Gastly are the same but weaker.

I actually didn't realize they evolved into each other until I saw the guide. (I think I first saw them on the anime).

I suppose it would've been nice to have 3 options instead of 1.

You might as well say there's no consistency between any of the metamorphosing bugs. WORM, DIAMOND WITH EYES, BUTTERFLY/BEE/MOTH. Or Tyranitar evolving from a pupa, which evolves from a baby dinosaur.

What doesn't make sense is the Dragonite line. Dragonite looks NOTHING like Dragonair, to the point I think they weren't originally intended to be a three stage line. Hell, Dragonair evolving into Gyarados is less ridiculous than Dragonite.

Not just that, it’s the pinnacle of “rock monster” design. You can argue Tyranitar and Golem are better, but they’re more like elemental reptiles whereas you would have no clue what animal Gigalith would resemble.
