>>36864310F4 is fun while you’re playing it but it has the critical flaw of not really sticking with you when you put the game down. Like, it has the best gunplay in the series hands down and the crafting system gives so many previously worthless items so much use that scavenging is probably best in the series too.
But so much of the game is the same exact generic mission types, the story is shit, dialogue is horrible, and every aspect of the world feels like we’ve seen it many times before in fallout. The only place with real atmosphere was the radioactive cloud wasteland (which was legitimately great for what it’s worth). What else was there? Diamond city? The zeppelin? The tone was just typical AAA videogame garbage.
But like I said, the game itself is fun to play. It’s a very mixed bag.
I think they’re trying to abandon any sense that a fallout game “should” be anything, instead opting to go for totally new mechanics and focuses each game. Not exactly happy so far but I do at least respect that commitment to shake things up.
Honestly I’m sure not gonna pay 60 for 76, but I might check it out eventually. If I treat it as it’s own thing and just think of it as a spinoff I might have fun playing it with friends. Kinda like what you said about 4 and expectations.
LGPE I’d think looks like crap even as a spinoff, so I guess 76 actually takes the lead here for less shitty game, at least for me.
