You can't use co-op against gym leaders or presumably the Elite Four. The feature only exists to streamline the filler battles and catching.

do you play mario kart with two wiimotes to get more coins too? coop could be fun, if you have somebody else willing to play with you then play a drinking game or something. putting limitations on it would be a very gamefreak thing to do, so im relieved they havent.

Because it’s poorly implemented.

If playing coop meant 2v2 battles there’d be almost no complaining (about this specific feature), but going 2v1 almost the whole game, even when the cpu trainer has more than one pokemon in their party, is just stupid. The aggravating thing is that just doing doubles battles seems like such an obvious solution, yet for some reason isn’t being used.

they definitely love doing that. but considering the control scheme, the joycon shaped like a pokeball that had better be useful in future games because its freaking expensive, that this is their plan to get people not good at the game playing, theres a decent chance it will return in gen 8.

does the trainer have 1 pokemon and suddenly obtain 2 when somebody joins? or do they give every cpu trainer mutliples of 2 pokemon? how would that work for the level curve, exp gain of the overall game? over-levelled takes you back to the too easy problem. what about the rebattling that can happen?
