The TM selection was really poor. Gen 1 has the worst TM selection of any game, focusing mostly on high power, low accuracy Normal-type moves, gimmicky moves like Bide, Rage, and Psywave, the two OHKO moves Fissure and Guillotine, and two TMs that can only be learned by one Pokemon, Egg Bomb and Soft-boiled.
The Gen 3 remakes had better TMs, but the region wasn't designed around them.

While I do like the region overall, there isn't much variety in terms of aesthetics for any of the games it's in, desu. For comparison, Johto (a region I'm actually not as fond of) does this far better.
