Looking at it objectively, wild battles were pretty sloppy and we only accepted it because it's been a thing from the first games
but after the first two hours of the game, you're never going to run into a wild pokemon encounter that is an appropriate challenge and that you don't one- or two-shot
there are still battles in the game, with trainers, which are much more substantial than wild battles ever were
and you get a different sort of gameplay to shake things up for the wild encounters

Playing in handheld mode is just for convenience
Like with mario odyssey, this game is 100% intended to be a home console experience, played on the big TV, that you just happen to be able to take on the go

maybe even work in a new system to avoid encounters or provoke encounters. i dont even mind fighting wild battles that much, i just hate getting sucked into one and having to deal with the bullshit of fighting non trainer battles. the GO catching system was not the solution but its a good step away from that cancer formula we had before.

Not really. You get a bulk of the experience from trainer battles. Only in the beginning does it matter. It's actually not a bad system.

If you need a really extreme case of this the first 7th Dragon game worked like this. The random encounters give garbage exp and there was exp scaling so after a certain point random battles were only useful for grinding monster parts. The dragons themselves however gave really good exp. So good in fact that I rotated my 4th party members about 5 times over the course of my first play through. And newly created characters start at level 1 in that game but it only took a dungeon or two from them to be battle ready.

That being said wild battles should still be in the game. If nothing else you need something to test your strategies on.

You could just run or one shot pokemon you don't like for exp. If you want to catch it you just weaken+paralyze+throw balls
With lgbt, you could still run, but you have to catch the pokemon if you want exp. we all know howslow and tedious the pokemon catching mechanic is in lgbt, we've all seen the demos.

Literally everyone except you.
The wild battle isn't really about game mechanic but the immersion. Having your pokémon you trained a lot, protecting you from wild pokémon is realistic and more immersive than just a minigame about trying to catch it while he is just move around and not threating you (a kid) at all. The best formula could be a fusion between those, as they did with the legendaries of the game.

Not only that, the lack of wild battles completely goes against previously established concepts, namely the fact that it's inherently dangerous to go fuck around in places where Wild Pokemon are abundant and that they usually attack trainers because they want to prove their worth and be caught to achieve their full potential.
