I'm some kind of idiot, meant to write 10, and he was still young when he stepped down
Mendel Palace obviously wasn't worked from beginning to completion on the same year so maybe he worked on game design and direction for like, 12 years give or take

From the interviews he's given, it's obvious he's a huge video game nerd. I mean he made a successful video game zine with tricks he learned himself. To not have any involvement seems off to me.

After hearing about all the issues with the development of GS I am starting to think Tajiri was putting heads too much with the other team members or Nintendo higher ups and was sort of pushed out of the way of them getting things done so he decided to fuck off and just do whatever he wants alone since he's still raking in the fucking money.

Wasn't really that good as a developer and as co-founder of the company, knew there was only one person he trusted with running it, so stepped away from development to focus on that instead. I also wouldn't cound personally reviewing all game scripts personally and working as executive producer on every game since that era to be stepping down either mind.

Well, compare what the GS beta showed was the original plan for GS and then look at the final product. The fact that both are dramatically different could be a case of Tajiri's original plan getting tossed and him sidelining himself post-GS because he couldn't take the pressure of running a global brand anymore.

I used to work with a guy who was happy to be demoted because he couldn't stand to deal with HR shit, didn't like all the hassle of having to supervise other people, revise payroll, etc. Essentially a guy focused on a niche at work, and the best one at it, but had no interest in promotion because he was not competent at the additional responsibilities.

Tajiri is probably in a similar boat.

Completely scrapping the original version of a game, working on a remake when Nintendo is breathing down your throat for a sequel, it's pretty obvious the dude isn't a company man.
