The longevity gimmick Morimoto mentions doesn't really work considering Burn Up Ho-Oh can't have Regenerator.

As for the Lugia explanation, does that mean if they ever did major revamps, it'd be water/flying since psychic is crap now?

I thought if a pure Flying used Roost it became Normal, unless they changed that in Gen 7 to match with Burn Up.

??? was removed from the game a generation later. If Tornadus used Roost he became Normal AFAIK.

So the only argument for it being pshychic is that it was an OP type back then? So they just wanted it to be OP? Even if being water already gave it an advanatge over Ho-Oh?

I still don't fully get why Psychic.

Maybe when we get a Mega/Primal Lugia it will actually be water type

It doesn't matter that it would have an advantage over Ho-Oh.
What matters is how dominant was Psychic type in gen 1 (weak only to bugs when the strongest STAB-bug was weak to psychic Beedrill and one Special stat that could be powered up +2 in one turn with Amnesia).
They gave Lugia Psychic type but simultaneously weakened psychic in gen 2 missing the point.
