Well, yeah. The problems you see in the 3DS era was solidified in Gen 5: forced side character interactions in each new town, forced interactions with legendaries that shouldn't be part of the story, over abundance of cutscenes that should only be reserved for the climax, forced interactions with side content that should only be optional (Pokestar Studios and Battle Subway), starters and regional exclusives having high stats with unserviceable movesets/abilities, and low opponent party counts.

Because some people do. It's really depressing to go through a dungeon and just have dude waiting for you at the end with no cut scene to establish them. But if your just talking about in between regular gym trainers then DPPt started that nonsense (probably to show off those polygons). The gen 5 games were just following form.

This is the kicker desu. I could have forgiven anything else if it had quality Pokémon, but the good mons are few and far between. Something like 70 mons being trash in a dex of 150+ is unacceptable.
