It is in no way, shape or form the weakest in the franchise and represents a mostly positive step in the right direction for the series as a whole. It has its problems (as all gens do) but it looks fantastic, plays extremely well and experimented with a few new mechanics while respecting the core gameplay of the original. Ultimately, USUM left the impression that gen 8 will be in good hands.

Go trash a bad gen.

I really fucking liked the Rainbow Rocket thing. My only complain is it weren't longer desu. USUM are way better games than SM, that's just fact. Though I still found the island quiet boring and same-y. My biggest hope for gen 8 is that it's a cool place to explore first and fore most. Every region before Alola has been so fun to explore and journey around in, but damn my nigga Alola is fucking boring as shit. To be honest with you, I kinda hope the go a little more open world with it in gen 8, now that they have the power to do it. It felt like you were going on a boring rail tour some places in Alola. But I really liked the music and all the new Pokémon in alola, so that was nice.

I know this gets brought up all the time but I yearn for a postgame that encourages me to min/max and EV train like before. Gens 3, 4, and 5 all gave us something amazing (albeit 5s was a little lazier) and then they just...drop it. I get that it only appeals to the "hardcore" players but it's not like we've stopped playing, I don't get why they can't give us something like those facilities again.

Gen 7 pushed the limits of the 3ds. Maybe not in ways we were hoping, but they definitely made sure to make it as visually pleasing as possible. I hope they'll do the same on the switch. I think the idea that the islands are boring stem from the character-heavy cutscenes that you are forced to encounter every 5 steps which kills the pace of discovery. The character driven plot was (hopefully) experimental and gen 8 will (hopefully) return to exploration-focused level design.

Overall, I enjoyed my time in Alola. It was a nice change of pace and every location was stuffed full of thematic character.

I think if GF really collected themselves, made a game with like 2 regions, a selection of pokemon from all 8 gens, 16 fucking gyms or maybe even more, an interesting story with interesting scenery to back it. I want a region with all the fucking colors ya feel me. And an amazing post game with lots of shit to do. Battle Frontier, Legendary hunting and so on. Also they'd have to not throw all their ideas out after one game. I also want new megas, z-moves and shit. And those fucking gay ass pokéballs with the the customizable gay shit that comes out of them when you throw it from gen 4, I want that back too. I want the ultimate fucking game, to show that game freak aren't as retarded as people think. and the facial expressions were so basic and awkward, they totally could have done better if they tried harder, this was not pushing the limits. and as for character driven stuff, when you have to keep interacting with the characters so that they all have a part in the story, it really makes their dialogue seem samey. lillie blows you in every scene and cries about how shes so weak since shes not a trainer. hau talks about only wanting to have fun and who cares if we win battles and yeah i lose every main story battle but FUN! gladion is pretty dope, professor is a low key favorite. but the problem is these traits or things they display go from quirk to gimmick really fast. if the game were more focused on the areas it would be better. i vividly remember the ranch because it stood out among the boring routes and had a bunch of thematic pokemon/npcs/items. it was a well defined part of the game. compare that to the whole final island where its just big canyon, gyser place, meadow, beach. its kinda boring and we have seen meadows beaches and canyons already. i dont think discovery or exploration being cucked was the problem, the game just didnt focus on thematic areas enough. if they put even a scrap of the love they gave the team skull town to every other part of the game then we would have the towns that sinnoh and kalos had where there was life and clear themes in their biome areas.
TL:DR
characters and cutscenes werent holding the exploration/routes back, the areas themselves being fucking boring were.

2 regions and 16 gyms is unbalanced for 2 reasons. first, most ice types and dragon types come at the end of the game, so you would have to beat most of the gyms in the game before you get access to those. secondly theres the level curve which as you saw with gen 2 was impossible to balance because mons learn their best moves around the time of the final gyms like hydropump and close combat. unless you make the first region end super early like level 40ish (which would cuck late evos like dragonite) then it would be really hard to implement a sense of progress in the next region. tms would also be hard to balance since you would have to wait until the last quarter of the game (4 gyms and league) to give out the best tms. then theres pokemon who get their big boost in power or evolve around the time you get to the elite 4. well because of the fact that they have no downside because theres another half of the game to play, they would be objectively better than the other picks. having a game that long would be very hard to balance considering most mainline entries have a pretty consistent 45-65 end game. also how the fuck are you gonna have 16 gyms and an elite 4 if theres not 20 types? not to mention items would continually devalue since you dont have another tier of items like ultra mega balls or extra hyper potions and omega full restores for the second region. all in all 2 regions in 1 complete package would be unbalanced. atleast let region 2 be post game.

I've enjoyed USUM a lot, definitely not the worst entry in the series.

Sucks what they did to fishing, and the unskippable cutscenes are tiresome. RotomDex could have used a lot more utility, as well. The bottom screen had far more utility in gens 5 and 6 than it did.

Are you kidding me? SuMo sucked. It wasn't an adventure, it was a fucking "don't let go of mommy's hand mind numbing vacation time". All you do is assblast down a hall of one mon trainers you oneshot with your led until you run into the brick wall that is cutscenes. There's no sense of progression, all you do is follow Lillie around like a good boi :) and then get your handheld right up to the League door cause fuck letting the player have any control. There's no game, there's no reason to even play. TPC got such raging hardons for people to go play comp they should have made the story fucking optional at the start and let players go right to 'end game' instead of having to sit through their middle school end of year film project. Sinnoh was the last real region but you dumbfucks had to ruin it with your pea sized brains. Even 5th Gen was better than 7th, yeah there were a lot of trash mons but it felt like a region instead of just a side note. tl;dr stfu you dumb zoomer.

Dude, SuMo does have an adventure, it's just you didn't like it (which is fine; the characters weren't nearly as engaging as they could have been and the pacing was a mess) but the whole point of endgame content (i.e. comp) is that you have extra things to do AFTER the play-through. And post game shit was fine, safe, but fine. Still added hundreds of hours to my time with it.

Am OP. Honestly Red was my first game. Still really enjoyed the vacation that was USUM (SuMo was pretty unpolished to be fair)
