>>36890567I haven't played the gen 7 games, but from what I understand, it comes from how the cutscenes play out :
>Gen 1 to gen 5-Music starts
-Character arrives
-Character talks
-Another person might come
-Character 1 talks
-Character 2 talks
-Character 1 talks
-Both leaves
>Gen 6 and up :-Fade to black
-Fade in
-Panning shot
-Offscreen character says something
-MC turns around.
-Camera switch to character.
-Character walks to MC.
-Character says a line.
-Character moves
-Character says a line or two.
-Panning shot
-Character says a line
-Another character comes in
-etc... you get the idea
-Fade to black
-Fade back in
The newer games are trying to be more cinematic with its' cutscenes. But they are doing so in an ineffective and time-wasting manner. Most micro-movement take way too long and the dialogues are, most of the time, exposition or tutorials, which results in very long and boring cutscenes. I'm not saying this type of cutscenes don't work, but you have to be careful with them.
Also, keep in mind I didn't play SM or USUM, and that I base my """analysis""" on what I was.
