The Let's Go games are a good thing.
All throughout Gen 6 and 7, the devs at Game Freak have been overly concerned about making sure the player knows where to go and what to do. The amount of handholding is unreasonable, the design of the world itself has become even more linear, routes are often basically straight lines, etc. It's clear GF is stuck between two hard places: having to cater to casuals and young children, while also keeping hardcores interested by including QoL features that make getting competitive easier, as well as including more and better options for battling competitively. The result is Gen 6 and 7, games which are more dumbed-down and kid friendly than ever before in the main game, but still trying to appeal to hardcores in the post game.
Let's Go fixes this. Now there is a Pokemon game for beginners. Now they don't have to worry about little kids and casuals, because now they can have this game all to themselves. Then, they can cater the upcoming Gen 8 games toward an E10+ crowd, toning down the handholding and kid-friendliness. The games can now be allowed to stop playing both sides in every game, since the sides have been separated into two different game experiences. (This is assuming that GF doesn't go full retard and keep the Gen 8 games the same as Gen 7 despite this clearly setting up a situation where they can please everyone.)
