>>36915122>>36915219>>36915297>love is a memeYour life is a meme, I'd wager. Stop adopting the outlook of a bratty teenager who thinks talking about 'muh brain chemicals' makes you so edgy and smart and woke.
Cynical, nihilistic people are naught but fools, living under the delusion that an embrace of the cold, cruel realities of the world is evidence of their own genius. That such an attitude makes them better, intelligent, more 'authentic' or insightful than everyone else. Such individuals see themselves as nothing else -- individual. Unique. Enlightened. They feel awakened at the revelation that the universe is meaningless and indifferent to our existence, like the rest of the population don't understand the same. You dehumanize people by considering them as little more than walking, unthinking robots. This is your form of a coping mechanism. Because YOU are determined to feel different, and can't handle the idea that perhaps the 8 billion humans roaming this planet aren't so far removed from yourself, that maybe they're not all that stupid, or that they have lives that are just as valid and special as yours is.
News flash; I'm aware that love isn't some divine force. I know that the general populace is vapid, and disinterested in the pursuit of higher concepts. Does that mean I think love is not real? Of course not.
You fail to understand emergent properties -- that is to say, the concept of one thing being more than the sum of its parts. A fish exists. Does a school of fish not 'exist' merely because it's made up of many smaller parts? Does the concept of a snowflake not 'exist', due to they way it boils down to ice particles falling in a predictable pattern? You really think acts of compassion and the experience of love don't have their root in a physical reality?
If you think unconditional love doesn't exist, or that love and sex/romance are one and the same, that's because you're a shallow, selfish human being who can't bring themselves to care.
