1. it makes the story mode unenjoyable if you spend the whole game resenting the face you don't have access to Pokemon to you actually want to use, or the Pokemon you catch have shit IVs/shit movepools/etc.
2. there's nothing else to do in the postgame, so even if you finally get the Pokemon you want with the stats and moveset you want, there's nothing to do with it
I thought this was just me and my own brand of autism, but seeing other people are now saying it, with increasing regularity, there's obviously something to it. This argument taken to its extreme is the one that says Gen 1/2 are the best games because the Pokemon you catch is immediately usable, but that's not gonna get any traction with younger/newer fans because it seems a bit retarded to argue 20 year old 8 bit games are more fun than the newer, feature-loaded (relatively speaking) games.
I'd wager one of the biggest things the franchise should keep in mind in the future is that people seem to want
1. to be able to use their favorites relatively soonish in the game
2. they don't want to have to use that favorite with the knowledge in the back of their mind that its IVs/nature/EVs are shit, or it doesn't have an important Egg Move, so that as soon as the game is done they now have a laundry list item of having to autismbox egg-breed a non-shit version of their bro. IMO ORAS' DexNav has come closest so far, by giving access to 31 IVs, Egg Moves, HAs, etc. during the story, without having to breed.
A less asinine mechanic for this would be great.
