Why does Lugia get all the love, while Ho-Oh fans are basically non-existent?

Lugia was in a movie, sure, but Ho-Oh has always gotten more love and respect imo. He was in the very first episode of the anime and was the holy grail for a lot of us older fans. He was mysterious, yet attainable

It's kind of a boring legend, to be honest. Granted if you look at it without nostalgia goggles lugia isn't much better AT ALL, but it had a movie people remember, and for some reason its design is way more popular amoung furry artists, if the cringe threads are anything to go by.

Lugia was featured in a movie during the golden age of Pokemon, featured in the anime and was the star of a gamecube game.
While it doesn't have "lore" it has plenty of history.
Ho-Oh was the opposite. It had one of the best backstories in Pokemon, but was rarely seen in the anime. At times implied to be symbolism or Ash's imagination. It took 20 years for it to appear in a movie. A much better movie than Pokemon 2000
Lugia will always be a little awkward fitting into Johto but my headcanon is it's a non native Pokemon that settled there.

I was never under the impression Ho-oh was unloved. Lugia just got the movie at the height of Pokemania. He became my favorite of the two at some point.

i think its the aspect of something just to put a name on it regal(hooh) vs cool(lugia), cool usually wins in short term, at least for me. the movie has a lot of fault in it, i liked lugia more because of that exposure, but after seeing more and more i think i really prefer ho-oh as of now, lore, music, look, and overall feel, i find very interesting, also not to start that typical saying but lugias 3d model is something im not fond of

Funny enough that it was Ho-oh's Silver sprite that made him look gigantic. Nice as the HAL model looks he never got that volume back.

Ho-oh literally can resurrect Pokemon and turn them into Legendaries. What has Lugia done? Make storms?
Both are my favorite. Just because ho-oh fans don't post about their autism and make degenerate art of the Pokemon, doesn't mean they don't exist.

Lugia looks less like a bird and more like a dragon. You could type it as Water/Dragon, Water/Flying, Dragon/Flying and it would fit much better than Psychic/Flying.

Ho-Oh looks like a majestic bird, and while it looks almost exactly like a fenghuang, that's an improvement over Moltres which always looked like a plucked chicken on fire.
