I had heard that Pokemon was on the verge of dying off when gen 3 came around, so they had to put in a lot work into it in an effort to save it. It was like a big gamble for them that paid off big time. But now after all these years there's not really any chance of Pokemon failing, so they don't have to try as hard.

More double battles, streamlined facilities, better gym leader parties, fast engine, improved encounter rates, and set a good new standard post-game content. If the water routes were fixed, TM/HMs were implemented like Gen 5, improved May/Wally, and had the physical-special split, then it would be perfect.

well I'm 30+ now, so I was not a kid when I played Gen3 in general, and it is still my fav gen, everything was perfect, the console games, emerald, the pokemon line, competitive became a thing, items, doubles,natures,abilities and all this stuff.
Gen3 will forever the best generation for me. But I like all gens except 7.

masuda was shit scared of failure so he gave it his all with R/S. Mechanically the games excelled and fixed the bullshit from gen 1/2. Although, making everything from scratch lacked content. This was fixed when BASED morimoto came on with emerald

Seriously, how do they create competing systems like Evs, Ivs and Natures, but not in the physical and special systems for blows? My theory is that they were already thought about it, but wanted to bring it as innovation in the next generation
