>>36919504This is a bit abnormal in video game franchises, where iterations are always meant to be exactly that – iterative improvements on what came before.
I think they're essentially trying to apply Nintendo's newer approach to video game franchises, where every new game is an altogether different take on the series. e.g. when Mario Odyssey came out, they had a lot of Japanese marketing material saying that Sunshine, Galaxy, and 3D Land were three completely different approaches to 3D Mario games. Which in some sense, sure. But when Nintendo does have sequels, they never feel inferior to what came before – Galaxy 2 doesn't intentionally drop things Galaxy 1 had so that Galaxy can still be unique.
This idea of intentionally leaving things out of newer games so that older games are still replayable is inherently insane. It doesn't make sense on paper and it certainly doesn't work in practice.
If Masuda's serious about GF recognizing it's time for himself and the rest of the executive team to hand the reigns over to the younger members, I would not be surprised if the first thing they come out with is a game that tries to put all of the features from Gens 4-7 into a single game, finally.
It'll be a flawed mess with no coherent theme and /vp/ is going to be filled with a bunch of shitposts of smugmasuda.jpg and "APOLOGIZE," but it'll be a long-needed step in the right direction.
