I think people are afraid of change, yet these people spam "Run" in most wild battles anyway. You get to pick your encounters now since you can see them in the overworld.

nobody spams run anymore, GF let you use repels easily without breaking gameplay. If you didn't want to fight pokemon, you didn't even have to. Now you have to go out of your way to avoid them by walking around them

You don't start any Pokemon game with repels available, and they were a waste until you got the super repel anyway. Repels also stop all encounters under your level, meaning if you were looking for a particular Pokemon the repel would cut you out from it, which LGPE works around now by letting you see what's there.

It's a dealbreaker if battling is the most important aspect of the game to you. I like the actual catching more anyway so this doesn't really bother me too much. It also fits the original vision of the series a lot better when you think about it.

Wait I didn't know this. How do you grind and get exp then? Catching pokemon gives you exp but am I expected to capture 1000 rattatas?

yes, the game is designed around capturing an excess of pokemon and sending them to professor oak
you will get an EV candy for each pokemon sent, so there us decent incentive to capture lots and lots, especially if you have interest in the master trainer battles

You are encouraged to catch as many pokémon of each species as you can. Doing that earns you candy for that species (ie. Caterpie candy) which you can use to power up stats. That's more or less how it works in Pokémon GO and now in Let's Go.
